Bhoota Kola
Bhoota Kola is a traditional ritualistic folk art form practiced predominantly in the coastal regions of Karnataka, India, especially in the Tulu Nadu region. Rooted in the local culture and spirituality, it is a unique blend of dance, music, and worship, dedicated to the Bhootas (spirits) or Daivas (deities) who are believed to be guardians of the land and its people.
During Bhoota Kola, a ritual performer, often dressed in elaborate costumes and vibrant makeup, embodies the spirit of the deity. The performance involves rhythmic drumming, chanting, and dramatic storytelling, creating a trance-like atmosphere. It is believed that the performer becomes a medium through which the deity communicates with the community, offering blessings, guidance, and solutions to problems.
Bhoota Kola is not just a cultural spectacle but also a deeply spiritual practice that reflects the region's reverence for nature, ancestors, and the divine. It plays a significant role in preserving the traditions and beliefs of the Tuluva community.
